This is the third title in the series and will help you enjoy the history and secrets of this 'fairest portion of northern kingdom' as it was labelled by Sir Walter Scott. The districts of Strathtay, Strathtummel, Breadalbane and Atholl are all discovered in great detail. The landowning families of Murray, Stewart, Campbell, Robertson, Drummond and Menzies all transformed these ancient estates with fairy-tale castles and vast plantings of forestry, which created the glorious scenery of Highland Perthshire.
The mighty River Tay flows some 119 miles and is the longest river in the country and a premier Salmon river. Vast sporting estates still flourish here with the famous 'Mac Nab', in which the hunter stalks a stag, catches a salmon and bags a brace of grouse, is still achievable. Other famous lochs such as Tummel and Rannoch are linked with mountain passes and glens, such as the longest Glen Lyon, whilst Glen Tilt and Glen Garry compete for wild grandeur, whilst the gentler straths of Tummel and Tay all delight the eye. High Mountain peaks of the likes of Schiehallion and Lawers dominate the skyline, rising above the deeply wooded lower slopes. This is 'Big Tree Country' with the tallest tree at the Hermitage, the widest at Cluny and the oldest at Fortingall.
