A farming area on the outskirts of Perth. 

A small village on the outskirts of which is the Perthshire Visitor Centre. Nearby Murthy Castle has connections with the wild west when a young laird returned from the states with a herd of buffalo and some native indians.

Holiday home to Beatrix Potter and the inspiration for many of her earlier works. Birnam wood and Dunsinane of MacBeth fame is hereabouts whilst the fiddler Neil Gow lived nearby. Birnam grew as the railway terminated here for a while and consists of a number of fine victorian houses.

Telford's Dunkeld bridge caused riots due to poll charges. The cathedral is the burial place of the Wolf of Badenoch and was formerly a monastery founded by St Columba. The original larch trees from Tyrol are in the grounds - from which the seeds alongside Japanese larch created the hybrid now cultivated across the northern hemisphere. With some good hotels and fine specialist retailers this is a popular wee place.The nearby Loch of Lowes is a  great place to see the resident pair of Osprey during the summer months.

A junction and small clachan consisting of a garden centre, an Inn and a few cottages.

A busy tourist honey-pot now by-passed and off the A9. A great many hotels, pubs, restaurants and retailers and even a theatre and the famous Salmon Ladder all keep the visitors entertained, whilst the smallest distillery in the country is also to be found here. The town is at the geographical centre of Scotland.

Part of the Forestry Commission and Tay Forest Park, Queen Victoria took tea here in 1866 and enjoyed the view, but it is named after Queen Isabella wife of Robert the Bruce.

A major battle of the 1715 Jacobite rebellion that saw the death of Bonnie Dundee, who led the Jacobites who infact won the day. This was Rob Roys first taste of battle as a young boy.The 'Soldiers Leap' is a ravine that one of the government troops jumped some 18ft to safety. A visitor centre is located at this National Trust property.

Blair castle and Atholl estates are the key attraction and employer hereabouts. Historic seat of the Duke of Atholl and home to the only private army in the country. The castle and policies are open to the public. 

The falls have been a well loved beauty spot for many generations, but these days most people come here for the House of Bruar, an upmarket country emporium built and furnished in the style of a shooting lodge. With tweeds, cashmere, gallery restaurant, foodhall and much else.

A small settlement just off the A9 and the home to a wildlife artist who has a gallery here.

A village at the head of Loch Rannoch, with a fine hotel.

The last remaining wilderness in the country, covering some fifty square miles of open moorland. A single track road leads to a small hotel and railway station.

A dramatic pointed mountain that dominates this area and is featured on our front cover viewed from Loch Rannoch.

The village of Weem has a refurbished hotel that was one time home of General Wade the road builder who transformed the Highlands.

A grouping of estates and fine mansions and victorian houses along the Tay valley.

Grandtully castle is private but its nearby ancient chapel is open to the public. The falls on the Tay hereabouts offer some excellent white water rapids.

A pleasant country town with many intersting shops and some good eateries & hotels.The famous bridge designed by Telford is still in daily use.

A very pretty and orderly grouping of cottages at the entrance to Taymouth Castle, former seat of the Earls of Breadalbane. Located at the end of Loch Tay.

A few houses along the shore of Loch Tay, well loved by anglers.

Thatched cottages, an ancient yew tree [the oldest in Europe at some 3000 years old] and a fine hotel are all to be found here at the foot of Glen Lyon. Legend has it that this was the birthplace of Pontius Pilate, whose father was a Roman ambassador sent here by Augustus to meet the Scottish king Mercellanus.

The longest Glen in the country at over thirty miles, it is also the most legend filled and very beautiful. Meggernie Castle was once the home of Robert Campbell who was in charge at the infamous massacre of Glencoe.

Located at the head of Loch Tay at the falls of Dochart.

A single track road follows the south shore of Loch Tay and the wee clachan of Ardonaig is home to a very good hotel.

 At the end of the South Loch Tay road is this group of a few cottages and houses.

Often regarded as Scotland in miniature. With steep sides this narrow pass along the tumbling river Almond is also full of legend.

 The distillery is Scotland's oldest and today is the home of the Famous Grouse Experience.
